Take Action Projects

It's Your World- Change It  Take Action Project

Our Girl Scouts voted to tackle littering in our community for our Take Action project.  Girl Scouts worked in teams to create poster displayed at Golden Hills Elementary, Cummings Elementary, and Tompkins Elementary to bring awareness to the problem.  We also organized a community clean up day along with Interact Clubs & Rotary Club of Tehachapi to pick up trash by the fields next to Dennys.

It's Your Story- Tell It Take Action Project

Our Girl Scouts chose to Stand up Against Stereotypes as their Take Action Project and made an educational videos to share.

It's Your Planet- Save It Take Action Project

As the girls discover their power to change how we use energy, they learn that they can help educate others as well as find ways to help our local environment.  Each Girl Scout picked an issue at their school that they want to address.  Some Girl Scouts picked planting more trees, another installing automatic shutoff waterspouts.  Two of our Girl Scouts picked the use of Styrofoam trays at school for meals. Serena talked with school officials first and learned that the decision to change is not made at the school but at the school board. That was when we made a plan for them to attend the school board meeting and have the two of them ask the Board members and Superintendent to consider getting rid of Styrofoam trays and switch to a biodegradable trays.

Outdoor Journey Take Action Projects

Our Girl Scouts love animals and the outdoors. They chose to do a Beach Cleanup at El Capitan State Beach as well as a supply drive for the California Living Museum in our local area for their Outdoor Journey take action projects.

Think Like a Citizen Scientist - Take Action Project

We learned about water turbidity, dissolved Oxygen, pH, and temperature. We tested water from Tehachapi Brite Lake, Horse thief lake, and Tom Sawyer lake. Brite Lake and Horse Thief lake were in the normal range, while Tom Sawyer lake was not. We logged all of our data in the EcoWater challenge website to share our findings with others!

Think Like an Engineer - Take Action Project

The Girl Scouts Koding Koalas gained real-world problem-solving experience through a guided, global robotics program that is fun and hands-on. They worked hard for months learning how to build and program a LEGO robot that navigates missions in a robot game. The team also completed a team project/challenge where they had to identify a problem, develop a creative and well-researched solution, and effectively communicate their findings to competition judges and the community.

After exploring three different possible problems, the team decided to focus on the challenge of charging smartphones using Clear Solar, a clear screen cover that can facilitate solar charging. The team researched the development of clear solar cells and made a model using conductive glass, nano titanium oxide, and raspberry juice to trap solar energy and convert it to electricity. In awarding the team with first place in the Innovation Project Award, the judges stated, "Our innovation project award-winning team presented a clear solution. Their sweet charging tech can be the future of phone charging. Normally these bears eat eucalyptus leaves, but for this project they prefer raspberries."
